If there’s one thing everyone can relate to at some point in their lives, it’s coming back from a trip and experiencing “travel crisis.”

Memories made on vacation last a lifetime, but the first week back home can be difficult to adjust to reality.

A woman has shared five tips on TikTok that people can use to treat their “travel depression” after returning from a trip.

“Every time I go to my dream place, Malibu, I come home to Chicago and I’m always so sad,” Natalie Louise begins the video. He then suggested some ways for people to relieve their boredom when it’s time to return to reality.

1. Clean the house

Deep cleaning and decluttering your space is one of the best forms of therapy for any situation, but it can be especially beneficial after some time away from the city. No one likes the dreaded unpacking and cleaning after a fun ride, but your acclimatization will be smoother and more comfortable.

“Keep your daily routine organized and organize things to keep your mind clear,” suggests Louise.

When you come back from a trip, the energy from the last time you were there can be stagnant. Clearing and clearing your space is a great way to restore the flow of energy.

Unpack your suitcase, do the laundry, sweep, mop, dust, light some incense or sage, and redesign your space to feel like a new chapter in your life.

After all, you’re not who you were before your journey, so your space needs to match your changed perspective.

2. Make an album of your favorite travel photos and videos

Sometimes the responsibilities and challenges of our lives can distract us from the positivity in our lives. The best thing about technology is that vacation memories are just a swipe away from your phone.

“If I’m ever sad, I start scrolling through those pictures and immediately put positive memories in my mind, and then I’m happy again,” Louise shared.

3. Remind yourself that nothing lasts forever

“Your current situation, it’s not permanent,” Louise said. “It’s nice to know that you can change it whenever you want, and that there’s a place that brings you so much happiness.”

If you’re in a destination where you always feel like the best version of yourself when you visit, you’re already one step ahead in planning your next steps in life. Remember that everything is temporary.

Trust the process and trust that your hard work will pay off someday. In the meantime, appreciate the moment, be grateful for what you have, and keep working towards the life you want.

4. Plan your next vacation

Whether you’re ready to book your next trip or want to start planning your ideas early, your next experience will help keep you motivated in your day-to-day work.

“We only live once, if you don’t see the world, when are you going to see it?” Louise expressed. “I don’t think there’s a better time to travel than now.”

Louise makes a good point, and if you’re in a position to take a vacation and travel the world year-round, take advantage of the exhilarating experience you’ll get from it.

Also, spending time planning your next trip in the non-traveling months can be a great hobby to pass the time.

“I’m going on a two-month trip across Europe, visiting many countries,” shared Louise. So it’s sad for me that I have two months off from traveling, but it will probably be worth it since I have to plan this long trip. So when I think about that, it takes away my depression and sadness.”

5. It’s okay to cry

Going on vacation to your favorite cities will keep your spirits high, and the serotonin rush you’ll experience when you return home will leave you in awe. If you feel the need to cry, that’s okay and very natural.

Most of us would like to travel the world in our lifetime and experience the different cultures and communities around us, but unfortunately, unless your profession involves travel, this is unrealistic.

“It’s normal to feel a wave of emotion when you come home from a trip,” says Louise. “It feels like a chapter is ending. An era is ending. Build on that. Get to the root of the feeling.”

Don’t let yourself feel the difficult emotions of coming home from a trip. Instead, use them as motivation to plan your next experience, and consider taking a vacation in your hometown to reconnect with your wanderlust. Your hometown might just be someone else’s dream vacation, so try to embrace the parts that make it special.

Be grateful that you are able to travel on such extravagant trips, and if it makes your life more meaningful, work hard to focus your life on collecting these experiences.

Coming home from a trip isn’t always so bad!

Personally, I know I can’t wait to get a fresh perspective on my hometown after an eventful trip.

While I always remember and miss my vacations, there is something very comforting about coming home to the comfort of my own home, relaxing in bed, and appreciating elements of my city that I didn’t experience before the trip.

Often, being away from home for a period of time allows you to appreciate things you may not have noticed before. Post-travel depression is temporary and there are always new experiences waiting.
